The Crossings Festival - Sconfinamenti
02.08.2024 at 20:30
The Crossings Festival - Sconfinamenti is the fruit of a new-born cross-border and interregional cooperation between three important cultural organisations, which complement each other perfectly: the Glasbenematica in Friuli Venezia Giulia, one of the oldest local professional music-educational institutions in Gorizia, Italy, the young and fresh Somestje Institute and the ImagoSloveniae Foundation, one of the main Slovenian cultural organisations with a rich experience in organising international projects and a wide-ranging international-cultural network.
The inter-regional nature of the festival is thus reflected in the organisation of the festival itself, the international range of performing virtuosos and the cooperation with established international festivals of serious music. As it is essential to educate the generations that will perform the project in the future in order to ensure continuity, the festival also includes an educational component in the form of a masterclass.
The synthesis of the present and the future will also be embodied in the closing concerts of the top Masterclass participants, who will share the stage with their top-ranked colleagues. Keeping pace with the upcoming generation of virtuosos is the inclusion of elements of classical improvisation, which increasingly connects serious music with the spirit of the times and restores its relevance in a broader musical genre context.
In addition to piano and improvisation masterclasses under the guidance of the programme director, Gorizia's piano star and GO! 2025 ambassador Alexander Gadjiev, and other masters, the Festival will host a series of top-class concerts in the Slovene-Italian inter-region from 24 July to 4 August, in Nova Gorica, Gorizia, Chedad, Portogruaro and Ljubljana.
Daniel Petrica Ciobanu first appeared on the international stage in 2016 after sweeping gold medals at the renowned Unisa International Piano Competition (South Africa) and BNDES International Piano Festival (Rio de Janeiro).
Daniel then went on to win both the Audience Prize and Silver Medal at the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv in 2017. He subsequently appeared at Carnegie Hall, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Konzerthaus Berlin, St John’s Smith Square in London, Enescu Festival in Bucharest, and toured in Japan, China, Taiwan, South Africa and Brazil.
Furthermore, Daniel is a visionary and has created a fresh and innovative international platform for young artists, founding the Sharp Festival. The biennial festival features not only classical programming but also embraces other sympathetic art forms, including jazz, video-mapping, painting, and dance.
He was the first artist in residence at the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest. He is currently artist in residence at the Banatul Philharmonic in Timișoara.
