Golo Brdo

A small town on the border river Idrija experienced various upheavals in its history, which have often caused the locals to move away. Only a handful of locals still live in the village, and they will certainly be happy to show you around the beautiful Primula auricula. This high mountain flower grows unusually low in this area, at an altitude of less than 100 metres, in precipitous limestone cliffs, which are rare in Brda. You can admire it in the first days of April, when it blooms yellow and fragrant, from the bridge over the poolside on the road to Britof.

The medieval church of the Virgin Mary on the Lake, just above Golo Brdo, is also worth a visit.

The old houses in Golo Brdo show the great architectural influence of nearby Veneto and Friuli, while archaeological finds of ceramics testify to the ancient and prehistoric settlement of the hill. Its strategic location in terms of transport undoubtedly gave it the character of a natural fortified outpost, which was further fortified with stone walls by the local inhabitants.
