2. St. Martin’s Feast: Toast to New Wine in the Medieval Village of Šmartno

One of the highlights of autumn in Brda is St. Martin’s Feast, celebrated on November 9th & 10th in the historic village of Šmartno. This feast marks the ceremonial blessing of the year’s new wine as grape must transforms into young wine. The narrow cobbled streets of this beautifully preserved medieval village are lined with stands offering local delicacies, wine and olive oil tastings, local products. Art extempore, dance and music fills the village squares. The blessing of the new wine is a highlight of the event, where locals and visitors alike gather to toast to the year’s harvest and welcome the new wine. The atmosphere is warm and festive, making St. Martin’s Feast a beloved tradition that honors both Brda’s deep winemaking roots and the community spirit that defines the region.
